Wimberley VFW Post 6441
Since 1946, Wimberley VFW Post 6441 has been serving Veterans and the community in the Texas Hill Country surrounding the beautiful town of Wimberley – where it is based.
Offering a “family friendly, smoke-free” environment with no bar, the Post organizes and hosts numerous events every year, including the highly renowned Wimberley Annual VFW Rodeo, which recently celebrated 67 years existence on the 4th of July, 2012. We also conduct our “Bingo” sessions every Friday night with the proceeds benefitting the local community.
The membership of the Wimberley VFW 6441 is proud and honored to support our wounded warriors and lost brothers. We have partnered with “Returning Heroes Home” and “The Center for the Intrepid” to raise donations through special events for these programs. We also proudly place flags at our veterans resting place every year.
Returning Heroes Home is helping hundreds of Wounded Warriors and their Families heal since 2006. Returning Heroes Home gives our Wounded Warriors and their Families a place to go outside of a sterile medical and rigid military environment they face every day at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX.
The Center for the Intrepid (CFI) is an advanced outpatient rehabilitation center which blends therapy, simulation, and extreme sports. It is the ultimate joint venture between the American people and the armed forces. Funded through the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund by donations from over 600,000 Americans, the facility is now an integral part of Brooke Army Medical Center.
The Wimberley VFW Post 6441 members have fun together. From BBQ cook-offs to Color Guards in parades – we work to have fun and bring joy to our community.
We look forward to seeing you either as a new member, visitor or participant in one of the special events we host for our community and wounded warriors.
Post New Year in Review
The Wimberley VFW Post 6441 membership has been working very hard in 2013 to make it one of the best years in Post history. The membership set some very high goals for the Post to achieve:
1. Produced a very successful annual Wimberley Jubilee, Parade and July 4th celebration for the citizens of Wimberley Valley. Members partnered with the Wimberley Chamber of Commerce to provide a week long celebration including a massive fireworks display; children entertainment; musical entertainment; a carnival; food pavilions; and vendor booths.
2. Produced a highly successful three day rodeo starting on July 4th. The Wimberley VFW Post 6441 members worked in partnership with Bo Davis and DVS Rodeo Productions to present one of the best outside rodeos in Texas. The Rodeo set an all-time record of attendees and participants at the rodeo.
3. Produced a successful Cowboy-Veterans Golf Tournament on September 13th – Patriot Day and generated a large donation for the Wounded Warriors in the Texas area. The membership, volunteers and Ladies Auxiliary produced a record day’s golf tournament starting with an early flight of players and an afternoon flight of players. The golf tournament hosted 146 players – with a large make up of wounded warriors and military veterans. The BBQ dinner and entertainment was excellent.
4. Sprinkle in a few weekend dances, Friday night bingo, musical concerts, chili cook-offs and we are having a great 2013 year.
Come and join the Post members in making 2013 a year of celebration. Together – we will have a great time!
